APD Applications
APD applications including HearBuilder, Zoo Caper, Insane Earplane, Elephant Memory, CAPDOTS, Sound Storm, and Safe and Sound Protocol recommended based on individual needs.

Heading
APD apps and online programs provide convenient, supplemental therapy options that can be completed at home while maintaining professional oversight and guidance. Following your APD evaluation, we recommend specific apps and online therapy programs that target your individual auditory processing challenges. These programs offer targeted training that addresses particular aspects of auditory processing while providing the flexibility to complete exercises on your own schedule.
Our Recommended APD Applications

HearBuilder®
HearBuilder is an interactive, evidence-based program that helps children strengthen essential auditory and language processing skills. Through engaging, game-like activities, students practice listening, following directions, phonological awareness, auditory memory, and sequencing. Designed for use at home or in school, HearBuilder supports children with Auditory Processing Disorder, language delays, or learning challenges, making skill-building both fun and effective.

Zoo Caper Skyscraper
Zoo Caper Skyscraper is an app designed to improve dichotic listening skills incrementally. Dichotic skills are required to distinguish between different sounds in each ear simultaneously. It uses animal sounds and/or speech sounds separately (in a dichotic fashion) in each ear, requiring the listener to correctly identify which animal is making a sound. Difficulties with dichotic skills can lead to symptoms such as distractibility in the classroom, difficulty understanding lessons when another sound is present. This, in turn, can have significant impacts on learning and can also affect reading and language development.

Insane Earplane
Insane Earplane is designed to improve a variety of tonal listening and auditory processing skills. It introduces various tonal activities, such as memory, pitched linguistic, and non-linguistic stimuli using tonal patterns, frequency sweeps, interaural timing/intensity differences, and allows the player to improve these skills. Research indicates that these skills are building blocks for learning to read.

Elephant Memory Training (EMT)
Elephant Memory Training (EMT) is a working memory training app designed for both children as young as eight and adults. Using a series of interactive games that blend auditory and visual input, EMT helps users build the ability to hold, manipulate, and recall information more effectively.

CAPDOTS®
CAPDOTS is an evidence-based, online auditory training system designed specifically for treating Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Through targeted, deficit-specific modules like CAPDOTS-Integrated and CAPDOTS-Selected, users practice listening tasks tailored to their unique auditory processing profile. Because it's web-based, therapy can be completed at home, school, or in-clinic — only requiring a computer and good-quality headphones. Progress is monitored by our audiologists and adjusted to meet each client's needs.

Sound Storm
Sound Storm is an auditory training application designed to remediate Spatial Processing Disorder (SPD) in children ages 6–12 using evidence-based algorithms. Through game-based challenges, users listen to target speech amid background noise and use spatial (binaural) cues to identify it. Clinicians can monitor progress via a dashboard, while the app adapts difficulty to ensure training stays effective. When used as recommended over 10–12 weeks, Sound Storm has been shown to help improve listening in noise and remediate spatial processing deficits.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based, non-invasive listening therapy that uses specially filtered music to help regulate the autonomic nervous system through vagus nerve stimulation. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and rooted in Polyvagal Theory, this protocol aims to reduce auditory sensitivities, boost social engagement, improve emotional regulation, and increase resilience to stress. SSP is often used alongside other therapies, such as psychotherapy or behavioral interventions, to help individuals feel safer, calmer, and more connected in their daily lives. The SSP can benefit various conditions and challenges, including stress, anxiety, trauma-related issues, sensory processing difficulties, misophonia, hyperacusis, and sleep problems.
