Auditory Therapy

Auditory therapy featuring Buffalo Model Auditory Training (BMAT) for decoding, tolerance-fading memory, integration, tonal processing, and organization deficits, plus ARIA therapy for dichotic listening challenges.

Heading

Auditory therapy is designed to strengthen specific areas of auditory processing that impact your ability to understand speech, follow directions, and communicate effectively. At ListenHEAR, we utilize therapy approaches tailored to address your individual auditory processing challenges, helping you develop the skills needed for success in school, work, and daily life.

Our Evidence-Based Therapy Approaches

Buffalo Model Auditory Training (BMAT) is the main therapy we utilize at ListenHEAR. This comprehensive approach targets four specific subtypes of auditory processing deficits through structured, individualized training. BMAT addresses Decoding, which focuses on the ability to quickly and accurately process the phonemes of speech. Tolerance-Fading Memory targets the ability to understand speech while in background noise and process auditory information in short-term memory. Organization works on sustaining the proper sequence of auditory information. Integration focuses on integrating information from both sides of the brain in order to properly understand and process the auditory signal.

At ListenHEAR, we also utilize a specialized therapy treatment for Integration deficits called Auditory Rehabilitation for Interaural Asymmetry (ARIA). It is used to treat dichotic listening deficits and was developed by Dr. Deborah Moncrieff at the University of Memphis. Amblyaudia is a condition in which a child or adult develops a dominant ear that suppresses sound information coming from the other ear, creating a "lazy ear." Our therapy programs include:

  • Decoding Training - Improving the ability to quickly and accurately process speech sounds and phonemes
  • Tolerance-Fading Memory Work - Enhancing speech understanding in background noise and auditory short-term memory
  • Organization Skills Development - Strengthening the ability to maintain proper sequence of auditory information
  • Integration Therapy - Training both sides of the brain to work together effectively for auditory processing
  • Tonal Processing Therapy - Helps individuals recognize and interpret subtle pitch, rhythm, and intonation differences in speech to improve listening accuracy and communication.
  • ARIA Therapy - Specialized treatment for amblyaudia, dichotic dysaudia, and amblyaudia plus conditions

ARIA can treat Amblyaudia, Dichotic Dysaudia, as well as Amblyaudia Plus, providing targeted intervention for individuals struggling with dichotic listening challenges.
